Lash Extension Care Tips & FAQ

There is a lot to know about Lash Extensions so please read through the info below before your first appointment!

Eyelash extensions add length, thickness and fullness to natural eyelashes!

Lashes are synthetic strands that are applied directly to your individual eyelashes using permanent glue. This glue never touches your skin, it is only applied to your lash. With periodic touch-ups, you can maintain amazing eyelashes for months!

  • To clean your eyelash extensions just follow the steps below!

Believe it or not, your eyelashes do have a purpose other than just looking glam! Lashes are meant to protect your eyes from small particles such as dust, sand and other environmental debris from entering and harming your eye. This is why you need to cleanse your lashes daily to make sure you’re not carrying around bacteria.

When makeup and grime builds up on your lashes, it can cause your lashes to clump up and hold in place. This causes bacteria to build up in your follicle and can cause infection.

Using My Beauty Lab Lash Extension Cleanser daily will leave your lashes clean and help you avoid bacterial infections, and blepharitis, and avoid carrying around allergens.

    1. Pick up My Beauty Lab Lash Extension Cleanser. There is nothing in Canada better to cleanse your lashes with!

    2. Lather 2-4 drops of the Lash Extension Cleanser onto the face, eyelids and lash line.

    3. Roll through lash extensions to remove dirt, makeup and daily build-up.

    4. Rinse thoroughly with water and pat the face and underside of your lashes dry. This is key to making sure you don't get water or the cleanser in your eyes.

    5. Brush clean lashes into place with a spoolie.

  • Most mascara brands contain chemical properties and oils that will break down the adhesive. Removing mascara from your lashes can cause the extensions to fall off prematurely if you are not gentle. And not cleansing your lashes of makeup properly can cause you to carry around unwanted bacteria.

My Beauty Lab has formulated an oil-free mineral Mascara that you can purchase on the site for use with your lash extensions.

  • I use synthetic lashes. All of my lash extension products are purchased from Bella Lash made in the USA and Sugar Lash Pro.

How long does the application take?

Each service is priced on the time it takes to apply them. A first-time application usually takes 2 hours and fills are 1 to 1.5 hours.

  • On the first set application, a touch-up service should be done within two weeks of application to ensure the client is properly maintaining the lashes. Your natural eyelashes have a hair cycle of 4 weeks. This is why your lashes can't last permanently. New lashes are constantly growing as mature lashes fall out. Your lash extensions will fall out as your natural lashes do once they complete their natural hair growth stages. A fill is required every 2-4 weeks to maintain eyelash density.

  • As long as you do not pull out your lash extensions, you will not see damage to your natural lashes. This is one of the biggest misconceptions about lash extensions because the lashes only fall out when your natural lashes do. When you have them removed, you may feel your natural lashes are shorter, but this is usually an illusion because you are used to your extensions that are triple the length and width.

  • In the first 24 hours, your lashes must not come into contact with water. Once the 24-hour period is over, you can live your life as you usually would.

DO NOT pick your extensions or rub your eyes, as this may result in pulling out your natural lashes and losing your extensions.

DO NOT use oil-based products, lotions or mascaras.

  • This could be the result of a glue allergy. If so you must have your lashes removed immediately. If you have a known allergy to Polyester or Cyanoacrylates glue you should not get lashes.

  • Never use an eyelash curler. This can damage not only the extensions but your natural eyelashes as well.

Use your eyelash comb to de-tangle every morning.

Try not to sleep on your face. Sleep on your side or on your back.

Don't pick your extensions or rub your eyes as this may result in pulling out your natural lashes and losing your extensions.
